Darlington has three distinct visual arts businesses located near its Town Square: The Chameleon Gallery, owned by Heather Jordan; Birds Of A Feather, owned by Sarah Jaillette; and Doodlebugs Fun Art Studio, owned by Jenny Altman.
Doodlebugs got the play on words, but the fun applies to all three.
The Chameleon Gallery is located on the Square and fits into the mold of a traditional fine art gallery, at first glance anyway. Heather Jordan’s eye for artistic talent, as well as her own painting abilities, is extraordinary. That’s what you see at first glance though. The Chameleon Gallery also offers beginning painting classes for children and adults. Jordan’s classes are aimed at first-time painters, but are fun for veterans looking to complete a painting in one class (perhaps with a spot on their wall to fill).
Suzanne Anderson stands by her unfinished artwork at the Chameleon Gallery.
Inside Chameleon, works by exceptional painters such as Mary Ellen Johnson and Pollie Bristow have been featured. You’ll also find smaller specialty goods like soap and there’s even a $35 basket of Jordan’s own originals.

Birds Of A Feather on Siskron Street, just off the Square, is an art, book and antique store. This versatile space is the site of a variety of art classes. Classes ranging from oil painting to stained glass have been offered for beginners and experienced artists. Birds Of A Feather has hosted a dinner theater by the Hartsville Community Players. Hobnob Gourmet also sells its products inside Birds Of A Feather.

On Exchange Street, just behind the Square, is Doodlebugs Fun Art Studio. Doodlebugs offers art classes for children and adults, an after school enrichment program, home school classes, and open studio sessions. Additionally, Doodlebugs has special event and birthday party packages.
Doodlebugs also offers summer camps, click here for info. (There is one starting July 11th.)
