Veterans Day Ceremony at Florence Veterans Park - November 11, 2011

The Florence Veterans Park will host a special Veterans Day Ceremony at 11am on Friday, November 11. (Veterans Day is always remembered at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month which is the time of the end of World War I. This year's occurence is a once-in-a-hundred years event since it is also the 11th year). The highlight of the event will be the unveiling of Alex Palkovich's greatest artwork to date, "Home Safe". It is an 8 1/2 foot statue of a service member returning to his family after being away on duty. It is generic in the sense it represents all members of the military who have been away and return home safely. (The cost is $200,000, and donations are greatly appreciated.)

Patriotic music will begin at 10:40am, Ceremony will begin at 11:00am.

Keynote Speaker will be the current Director, SC Department of Employment and Workforce, a retired US Army Major General, MG (R) Abraham Turner, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_J._Turner.

The event is open to all and serves to honor our veterans, our military, and their families. Folding chairs are suggested. If weather is inclement, ceremony will be in ground floor or the Civic Center.  For more information on this event and others at the Florence Veterans Park, please contact Barry Wingard at bfwingardjr@aol.com or visit www.cityofflorence.com.
