The Broadway play, “The Color Purple,” which is based
on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the moving film by
Steven Spielberg, will be performed at the Francis Marion University
Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
The play is the
unforgettable and inspiring story of a woman named Celie, who finds the
strength to triumph over adversity, and discover here unique voice in the
world. With a joyous, Grammy nominated score featuring gospel, jazz, pop and
the blues, it is about hope and the healing power of love.
This show is the third of four in the “Broadway Series” being
performed during the PAC’s inaugural year. The final show is Neil Berg’s 100
years of Broadway which will be performed on Feb. 2.
In addition to the “Broadway Series,” there are four others during
the PAC’s season that runs until May of 2012. Those series include,
concerts, family oriented shows and a variety series as well as a wide range of
acts in the smaller, more intimate Black Box Theatre. Information on the

tickets may be available for purchase at the door.
