FMU Performing Arts Center honored with two top architectural awards

The Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center (PAC) has been recognized by two organizations for its architecture and for the innovative use of sustainable material.

The U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) recognized the PAC with one of its highest distinctions, the Architecture Award, while the Marble Institute of America selected the new venue as a recipient of a Pinnacle Award for the sustainable use of marble in the project design and construction.

“We know the PAC is a world class facility.  It appears as though the architectural and building associations are discovering it as well,” said FMU President Fred Carter. “We’re very proud of these awards.”

USITT is a prominent leader of theatre and entertainment design, management, and technology through its conferences, exhibitions, awards, publications, and research.  The Institute issues a variety of awards to honor individuals and organizations, and this year recognized the PAC.  Since 1994, USITT’s Architecture Awards have provided public and professional recognition for contemporary architectural projects.  Past award winners hail from England, Germany, Japan, California, New York, and all points between.

The highly coveted Pinnacle Awards are given to projects whose beauty, creativity, ingenuity, and craftsmanship exemplify professional mastery in the use of natural stone in commercial and residential environments.

The FMU Performing Arts Center is a performance and academic venue located in downtown Florence, S.C. Additional information is available at www.fmupac.org.  The architectural firm responsible for the design of the PAC is Holzman Moss Bottino of New York, in association with FW Architects Inc. of Florence.
