Florence-Darlington Technical College will once again host its own version of Trick My Truck and Junkyard Wars on Saturday, March 31, with the third annual Welding Rodeo. The FDTC Educational Foundation is sponsoring the free event.
The contest starts Saturday morning at seven at the College’s Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology with 10 teams of professional and student welders running in a “scrap dive.” The competitors will pick out scrap metal which they will turn into pieces of art.
The teams will have eight hours to complete their sculpture. The theme of the competition this year is South Carolina. A panel of judges will pick the best pieces in the professional and student divisions and cash prizes will be awarded.
All of the art work will be auctioned off at the end of the competition to benefit the FDTC Educational Foundation’s scholarship fund. The Welding Rodeo also will feature a Palmetto Cruizers car show monster truck, food and entertainment.
ESAB Welding Incorporated of Florence, a co-sponsor of the rodeo, also will present demonstrations of its advanced welding equipment.
