The Francis Marion University Concert Band, Concert Choir,
the String Ensemble and the Jazz Express will all appear at the Francis Marion
University Performing Arts Center in the month of April.
The FMU Jazz Ensemble
will appear at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12. Directed by Dr. Brandon
Goff, the group is devoted to the development of individual improvisation
skills through the preparation and performance of literature for small groups
representing a variety of classic and modern jazz, pop, rock and soul styles.
The FMU Concert Band will
appear at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17. Conducted by Kelly Jokisch, the
band is made up of both FMU students and community members.
The University String Ensemble,
directed by Dr. Terry Roberts, will appear at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20. The
ensemble, which performs chamber music, is made up of FMU students and faculty.
The FMU Cut Time and Show
Choirs will appear at 4 p.m. on April 22. Directed by Sue Orr, the
choir has an average enrollment of between 35 and 45 students. This group
has sung in numerous area churches and has also performed with the Florence
Symphony Orchestra. Cut Time is an audition-only group which combines singing
and choreography. This group performs throughout the region for schools
and service organizations.
Tickets for the shows are $5
each and may be ordered by telephone at (843) 661-4444, and at the FMU Performing Arts Center
Box Office. Telephone and personal ticket sales are available Monday through
Friday between 12-5 p.m. Subject to availability, tickets may be available for
purchase at the door. The first 100
students get tickets free for each performance.
The PAC is located in downtown
Florence at the intersection of Dargan and Evans Streets.
