On May 20 at 3 p.m., Denley and Ann Caughman and members of the Montgomery Family will debut the book "Limbs on Our Family Tree," written by Mable Montgomery. The book depicts life in Marion from the late 1900s until the 1950s and was written by Mable, a lifelong resident of Marion. She was born at the Grove, now a bed and breakfast owned by the Caughmans.
Mable was an active community and civic leader, interested in education, gardening, photography and writing. Descendants of the Montgomery family will be present for a reception at 3 p.m. and tours of the Eastlake style home will be given. The book reveals an interesting snapshot of life in Marion over more than 50 years, Denley and Ann Caughman say.
Mabel was the author of eight books and wrote textbooks for the Opportunity School begun by Wil Lou Gray. The Marion Mail, written for and sent to servicemen overseas during World War II, was also a product of Mabel.
Copies of the book will be available for $7.95. Plan now to step back in time and enjoy a little local history. For questions or information, call 843-423-5220.
