For the third year in a row, the Williamsburg County Hometown Chamber is providing the citizens of Kingstree with a way to cut loose during the work week, with the Summer Celebration Down at the River concert series.
On Thursday, the chamber hosted the second of three concerts set to take place this summer, with the next scheduled for July 12.
Leslie Spivey, a member of the Williamsburg County Hometown Chamber, said the concert series is a part of an effort by the chamber to both unite the community, as well as provide an entertainment outlet as well.
“We want to get people together,” Spivey said. “We just wanted to do something to help bring the community together.”
The Thursday concert was held at Kingstree’s Gilland Park, with music provided by the east coast multi-genre band Coconut Groove Band.
Spivey said she feels the concert series is something that can help residents of Kingstree and Williamsburg County have communal pride in their community, even though conflicting schedules often make it hard to create a truly community involved event.
“For a lot of the community, it’s hard to find a time to get together,” she said. “We want them to have some pride in their community. We want them to like living here.”
