The Clay Pot to hold Singer/Songwriter Competition



The Clay Pot in downtown Florence is gearing up to host a “Top of the Pot” singer/songwriter competition that will yield the winner a recording package and $300.
The competition is designed specifically for amateur musicians who have written their own unpublished lyrics/song.
Contestants must register for a round a spot. The first-round performances will be from 7-9 p.m. July 19, July 27, Aug. 16, Aug. 23 and Sept. 6 at the Clay Pot.
Songs will be judged on basis of lyrics, originality of content, melody quality, uniqueness of presentation, demonstrated proficiency and audience response.
The top five overall performers will compete from 4-10 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Downtown Renaissance Courtyard.
Peggy Brown, owner of the Clay Pot, said, “The coffee shop is an art center. We promote and display our local talent and offer their works for sale. In the Pee Dee, we have some very talented musicians writing lyrics and music. This competition is a way for those artists to benefit from their gifts they share with the community.”
Southern Harmony Recording is sponsoring the competition as well as the recording package for the winner. Prizes will be award to the second, third, fourth and fifth place finishers as well.
