As the Cold War grew in size and intensity
following World War II, Dwight D. Eisenhower served two terms as president of
the United States from 1953 to 1961. His responses to the many and varied
issues that beset the western world, while simultaneously addressing the
domestic problems arising from the readjustment to peace time concerns, are
examined.
Presented as a virtual memoir, the program
depicts Eisenhower as reminiscing over issues and policies, problems and
solutions, successes and failures, social and international crises, and the
changing lifestyle of the American people, tired of war but uncertain of the
path ahead.
