April 1: Live @Central Holy Week Easter Musical Performances

Holy Week - Live @ Central - April 1st at 6:30 PM Thompson Family.  Annually a program of Easter music and other music is presented by Rebecca, Shaw and Robin Thompson.   Each year the Thompsons have shared their musical talents with Central Church on the Wednesday between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.

For the "Live @ Central" evening, the Program begins at 6:30 PM.  There is a dinner at 5:30 PM.  Cost is $5.00 for Adults and $2.00 for Children.  RESERVATIONS FOR DINNER AT 843-662-3218

Audition Alert: Join the Masterworks Choir on January 6th


Attention local singers: If you are a lover of fine choral music and not already a member of the Masterworks Choir, the time to join is now.  Will Carswell, conductor of the Masterworks Choir, will be holding auditions for new singers from 6 to 6:45 PM on Monday, January 6 at Central United Methodist Church.  Auditions will take place just prior to the choir's first rehearsal for its spring concerts.

May 18th: Florence Men's Choral Society to perform their Spring Concert



Florence Men’s Choral Society will perform music from “Phantom of the Opera” and other famous show tunes, Sacred, and beautiful Folk songs in their Spring 2013 concert slated for Saturday, May 18 in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church Florence at 7:30 p.m. Special guest solo artists will be Shaw and Rebecca Thompson. Artistic Director Julian M. Young will conduct with the assistance of accompanists Ann Rodgers Chandler and Betsy T. Johnson. The church is located on the corner of Cherokee Road and Park Avenue. Admission is FREE!

The Florence Men's Choral Society will present selections from Phantom of the Opera (and other musical selections) with guest soloists Shaw and Rebecca Thompson on Saturday, May 11th at First Presbyterian Church in Florence.  The show will begin at 7:30pm.  Admission is free.

Four New Board Members Join the Florence Regional Arts Alliance

FRAA Board Welcomes Four New Directors

Quincy Kennedy, President of the Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA), recently announced the addition of four new members to the FRAA Board of Directors.  Jade Perkins, Hilton Howe Cooper, Larry Anderson, and Shaw Thompson attended their first Board Meeting on July 24th

“This group of new board members comes to us an exciting time.  The arts are thriving in our County and region.  They’re going to help us keep that momentum going,” said Kennedy.    

Jade Perkins is the Content Producer for the Florence Convention & Visitors Bureau.   A native of Ohio, Perkins also has experience in broadcast journalism.  Currently, she resides in Florence.

Hilton Howe Cooper of Scranton currently is employed by DHEC.  She became involved with FRAA through her connection with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. 

Larry Anderson is Chair of the Art Department at Francis Marion University.  In addition to serving on the FRAA Board, Anderson serves on the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Arts Alliance.  He has a long history of involvement with the arts in Florence County. 

Shaw Thompson, an active member of the Florence Little Theatre and the Masterworks Choir, is also new to the FRAA Board.  A native of Florence, Thompson is employed at Shaw Lumber Company and serves as an adjunct faculty member at FMU.

FRAA Board Members serve three-year terms and may serve up to two terms before rotating off. 


Established in 1984, the Florence Regional Arts Alliance is a community-based non-profit organization that is committed to preserving, supporting, and promoting the Arts in Florence County.  Additionally, FRAA strives to promote and strengthen the arts in the region through its online arts marketing initiative, Pee Dee Arts.
