FLT to start Senior Readers Theatre

From Sue Schatz at the Florence Little Theatre:
The Florence Little Theatre is starting a Senior Readers Theatre group for ages 50 and up. Reader’s Theatre is different than regular theatre as there is no stage setting, and the actors read from scripts so there is no memorization of lines.
When theatre has the insight and talent of older adults, great things can happen.  Their experiences touch viewers and inspire audiences.  Performers excel with the thrill of the lights, the limelight, and of course, by being on stage.
Our goal is to have several different types of programs that we can take to civic organizations, churches, retirement homes, nursing homes and other venues in our area.  Please come out and become involved with this wonderful new program at FLT. If you have any questions, please call the Theatre office at 662-3731.

September 14th-22nd: Ragtime at the Florence Little Theater

FLORENCE LITTLE THEATRE TO PRESENT

Ragtime

Book by Terrance McNally
Music by Stephen Flaherty
Lyrics by Lynn Ahren
Based on the novel Ragtime by E. L. Doctorow

The Florence Little Theatre will present the Wells Fargo production of Ragtime on September 14-22, 2012. This production is being directed by Shaw Thompson.

Ragtime is not only a powerful portrait of life in turn-of-the-century America, but a relevant tale for today. The musical intertwines the stories of three extraordinary families, as they confront history’s timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and what it means to live in America.

The Tony-winning score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty is just as diverse as the melting pot of America itself. It draws upon many musical styles from the ragtime rhythms of Harlem and Tin Pan Alley to the klezmer of the Lower East Side, from bold brass band marches to delicate waltzes, from up-tempo banjo tunes to period parlor songs and expansive anthems.

The Florence Little Theatre is located at 417 S. Dargan Street. Tickets go on sale Underwriters, Benefactors, Patrons and Sponsors on Monday, September 10, General Membership on Tuesday, September 11 and to the general public on Wednesday, September 12.
