The Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center recently celebrated the artistic and financial success of its inaugural season, and announced plans today for the upcoming year.
FMU President Dr. Fred Carter said the PAC hopes to build on its successful first season which saw the facility actually make a small profit as it fulfilled its mission to serve students and the general public. Some 25,000 people attended events at the PAC which included more than 100 performances as well as academic and community events.
In addition to those performances, thousands of school children from all over the Pee Dee area enjoyed programs selected especially for them from the Family Series. The PAC was also able to showcase performances from the Florence Symphony Orchestra, the FMU Department of Fine Arts, and the Masterworks Choir. Also, a number of performers, organizations, businesses and individuals rented the facility for public and private events.
The new season will have five different series performing on the main stage that include Broadway shows, Americana, dance, family oriented shows and a variety series as well as a wide range of acts in the more intimate Black Box Theatre.
The 68,000-square-foot center can seat 850 in the Mainstage Auditorium and up to 125 in the Black Box Theatre. As an educational facility, the center houses classrooms and office space for the FMU Department of Fine Arts. In addition, the building houses offices for the Florence Symphony, the FMU Music Industry faculty and the Drs. Bruce & Lee Foundation.
Development and construction of the FMU Performing Arts Center was made possible by the generosity of the Drs. Bruce & Lee Foundation, the state of South Carolina, the city of Florence and several private benefactors including BB&T, McLeod Health, Adele Kassab and others throughout the community.
Tickets may be purchased at www.fmupac.org, via telephone at (843) 661-4444, and at the FMU Performing Arts Center Box Office. Telephone and personal ticket sales are available Monday through Thursday between 12-5 p.m. Subject to availability, tickets for individual performances will be available 30 days prior to the show.
