Organist William Douglas will present a concert on the
four manual Reuter organ at First Baptist Church in Florence on Saturday,
August 4 at 6:00 p.m. The church is
located at 300 S. Irby Street.
William Douglas started playing the
piano at age five under the instruction of Barbara S. Lawrimore, and began
organ studies three years ago under the tutelage of Dr. Keith F. Taylor,
Director of Music at Trinity United Methodist Church in Darlington. Currently serving as Music Ministry Intern at
St. John’s Episcopal Church, William plays for Sunday morning services and
works with adult, children, and handbell choirs.
The program will include
Karg-Elert’s “Praise the Lord with Drums and Cymbals,” movements from Handel’s
“Royal Fireworks Suite,” works by Bach, and more. William has billed this as a “farewell”
concert as he will be leaving Florence in August to pursue
a degree in Organ Performance at the University of South Carolina.
Prior to his appointment at St.
John’s, William served as organist at Mizpah Baptist Church and pianist at
Oakdale Baptist Church. William
graduated in June from Wilson High School, where he served as ROTC Commander as
well as accompanist for a variety of music events.
William Douglas is a 2012 recipient of the Betty Ann Darby Scholarship presented by the Florence Regional Arts Alliance.
