April 8th: Liao, Ma, and Ouyang to be featured in FSO Concert

It's not too late to join the excitement of the Symphony Season! The Florence Symphony Orchestra will be performing their fifth concert this season on April 8, 2013 at the FMU Performing Arts Center. This concert will feature talented young artists and winners of the FSO’s 2nd Annual Young Artists Piano Competition: 1st place winner Kristy Liao, 2nd place winner Jonathan Ma, and 3rd place winner Olivia Ouyang.

All three winners are students at Wilson High School. Kristy Liao is 16 years old and has studied with Linda McKenzie since 2000. She has won Florence Piano Festival Honors, SCMEA Honors, and SCMTA Honors. Kristy also placed 3rd in the FSO's 1st Annual Young Artists Competition and performed with the FSO during their Spring Concert in 2012.  Jonathan Ma is 17 years old and studied piano for 12 years. He is currently studying with Linda McKenzie and has been since 2008.  Olivia Ouyang is 15 years old and has studied piano for 8 years. She is currently a student of Linda McKenzie.  Olivia has won SC Piano Festival Honors and SCMTA Honors. 

The evening will begin with a world premier by Brandon Goff as the FSO debuts his piece Fanfare for Today, then the Young Artists Competition winners’ pieces.  Kristy Liao will perform Schumann's Concerto in A minor, Opus 54, Movt. I.  Then we will hear Jonathan Ma perform Mendelssohn's Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Opus 25, Movt. I.  and Olivia Ouyang will perform Mozart's Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466, Movt. I. The evening will end will the Florence Symphony performing Igor Stravinsky's L'oiseau de Feu (Firebrid) Suite from the Ballet.
