The Florence Little Theatre is thrilled to announce our upcoming slate of productions for our 2013-2014 Season. This season will mark the 90th Anniversary of Florence Little Theatre providing excellence in live theatre entertainment with volunteer forces drawn from the talent of our community. This season’s mixture of five plays features two musicals, two comedies and a drama.
The keystone of this 90th Anniversary is our opening production: the most requested title from our audiences, and perhaps the most popular musical of all time, Les Misérables. This international stage hit and recent Oscar winning film adaptation tells the story of Jean Valjean as he is released from years in prison in 19th century France and begins a life-long struggle for redemption, relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert. FLT is one of the first community theatres in South Carolina to produce this epic, grand and uplifting show. The production will be directed by Julia Saverance with performances on September 13-22, 2013. Audition dates for this production will be Sunday, June 2 at 3:00 and Wednesday June 5 at 7:00 for adults ages 16 and older, and on Saturday, June 8 at 11:00am for children ages 7 to 12.
Florence Little Theatre will celebrate Halloween with Arsenic and Old Lace, October 25-November 2, 2013, a “killer” comedy classic directed by Shannon Dunn. Our midseason drama will be Doubt, A Parable, a brilliant and powerful play about the issue of Doubt vs. Certainty within a parochial school. This production will be performed January 17-25, 2014 and will be directed by Brad Sponic. The second comedy in the FLT lineup will be Dearly Beloved, with performances February 28-March 8, 2014. Directed by Frankie Sullivan, this hilarious sequel to Dearly Departed is the story of a completely dysfunctional but loveable Texas family in the throes of another series of life-changing events.
FLT will close its 90th Anniversary Season, April 25-May 3, 2014, with the classic, The Wizard of Ozdirected by Scarlett Knight. Come join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman, Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination and do battle with wicked witches and flying monkeys while in search of home, knowledge, heart, and courage. This beloved show promises to delight audiences of all ages and celebrate the magic that is live theatre.
In addition to our regular season membership schedule, FLT will be teeming with additional non season ticket events, beginning with our annual summer youth production. Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr., based on the Emmy award winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series, features a large cast of children and youth singing the well known songs from the series like “Conjunction Junction” , “I’m Just a Bill”, and “Circulation”. Directed by Will Bynum, the performance dates are July 12-20, 2013 and auditions will be held Sunday, May 5 and Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 7:00pm for ages 8 to 18.
Florence Little Theatre is proud to present this incredible lineup of shows in celebration of 90 years of quality community theatre productions for the people of the Pee Dee.
