The Coker College Wiggins School of Education invites students and community members to a book talk at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 in Room 228 of the Charles W. and Joan S. Coker Library-Information Technology Center.
Light refreshments will be provided.
Darlene Maxwell, professor of education and coordinator of the early childhood education major, will facilitate a discussion on “The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything” by Sir Ken Robinson.
“Our creative energies are stimulated when we pursue our passions in life,” said Maxwell. “In ‘The Element,’ Ken Robinson insists that creativity should be the focal point within our educational system as well as in the workplace.”
Published in 2009, “The Element” argues that the point at which natural talent meets personal passion is the point at which people feel most inspired and achieve at their highest levels. Offering strategies for transforming education, business and communities to meet the challenges of living and succeeding in the 21st century, the New York Times best seller has been translated into 21 languages.
Robinson is a creativity expert who has spoken around the world about challenges facing businesses and education. He received his doctorate at the University of London researching drama and theater in education and his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Leeds. Robinson is a professor emeritus of the University of Warwick, U.K. He has also authored “Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative.” Robinson lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Therese.
