February 9th: St. John's Epiphany Concert Series features Parker-Harley Harp Trio

St. John’s Epiphany Concert Series continues with a performance by the Parker-Harley Harp Trio on Sunday, February 9 at 6:00 p.m. in the church’s parish hall.  There is no charge for the concert, but donations are appreciated.  Light refreshments will be provided.  St. John’s is located at 252 S. Dargan Street in Florence.  Parking is available in the lot behind the church, as well as on Dargan Street.

The Harp Trio features two University of South Carolina professors.  Constance Gee is viola professor at USC where she maintains an active viola studio, coordinates string chamber music, and is Director of the Community Music School and Suzuki Strings program. She has performed extensively across the United States and Europe as an orchestral and chamber musician and soloist. She lived and worked in Spain for several years as the Principal Violist with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada and the Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife. Dr. Gee has appeared as soloist with orchestras, including the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the Charlottesville Symphony, and Piccolo Spoleto Festival among others.  She has premiered several works written expressly for her; most recently Reginald Bain's “Tiling” for viola and piano. Upcoming projects include the recording of the works for viola by Henry Brant to be included in the collected works of the composer.  She holds degrees from the University of Maryland, the Yale School of Music, and California Institute of the Arts.
Flutist Jennifer Parker-Harley enjoys a versatile career as a teacher and performer. Having joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina in 2008, Parker-Harley is committed to training a new generation of performers, educators, and advocates for the arts.

Dr. Parker-Harley was a member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Ohio for eight years before moving to South Carolina. During her tenure there, she appeared as soloist with the CSO, as well as many other orchestras in the central Ohio area. Parker-Harley has also been a member of the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, the National Repertory Orchestra, and the Heidelberg Schlossfestspiele Orkester.  She is an active recitalist and prizewinner in several national competitions, and appears as a frequent performer at the National Flute Association's annual convention and in schools and music series across the country.

Parker-Harley's students have gone on to study at such prestigious institutions as the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the Peabody Institute, the University of Texas School of Music, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her students have also been prizewinners in several competitions of the National Flute Association, the Florida Flute Association, the Kentucky Flute Society, the Central Ohio Flute Association, and the South Carolina Flute Society.

Parker-Harley is an honors graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy, holds a bachelor's degree from the Eastman School of Music, and graduate degrees from Michigan State University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.   In the summers, she serves on the faculties of the National Music Festival and the Saarburg International Music Festival in Germany.

Andrea Mumm is the Principal Harp of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. She holds her bachelor degree from the Eastman School of Music and her master degree from Northwestern University. Mumm has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, National Repertory Orchestra, Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra, Mercury Opera Company of Rochester, and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, in addition to having toured extensively throughout North and South America as Principal Harpist with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas. As a competition winner, Mumm has been featured as a soloist with numerous orchestras and is in demand as a chamber musician.  She was a finalist for the American Harp Society National Solo Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is also a two-time winner of the American Harp Society Solo Harp Competition.  She has recorded Bon Appetit!, a CD of vocal music from American composer, Lee Hoiby, under the Albany Records label.  As a music educator, Mumm is a guest lecturer, coach, and performer for the youth orchestra NEOIJIBA in Salvador, Brazil.

The remainder of the Epiphany Concert Series slate is as follows: River City Dixieland Jazz Band, February 16; USC University Chorus, February 23.  Both of these concerts will be held in St. John’s larger fellowship hall, located behind the church building.  A downloadable brochure is available at www.stjohnsflorence.org.
