January 19th: The Three Baritones at St. John's Church in Florence

St. John’s Epiphany Concert Series continues with a performance by The Three Baritones on Sunday, January 19 at 6:00 p.m. in the church’s parish hall.  There is no charge for the concert, but donations are appreciated.  Light refreshments will be provided.  St. John’s is located at 252 S. Dargan Street in Florence.  Parking is available in the lot behind the church, as well as on Dargan Street.

Baritone Hal McIntosh is equally at home on the operatic or musical theatre stage. Recently, he was heard in the role of the Count in the Palmetto Opera's production of Mozart's “The Marriage of Figaro.” He attended Furman University, University of South Carolina, and Winthrop University. Mr. McIntosh has been a national finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He has sung many times in Carnegie Hall and has also performed in New York's Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. He has performed extensively in North and South America, the United Kingdom, and Finland. As a voice instructor, Mr. McIntosh has served on the faculty of Charleston Southern University and Columbia International University. In addition to his performing and teaching, he serves as Music Director at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington and is the founder/director of the Lexington County Choral Society.

Jacob Will, bass-baritone, is a native of Hartsville, SC.  He made his New York Philharmonic debut as soloist in the American premiere of the “Messa per Rossini”, a performance televised live nationwide. In the course of an international career, Mr. Will has appeared with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, New York City Opera, International Bach Festival of Schaffhausen (Switzerland), and Vienna Symphonic Orchestra. He has sung frequently with the Zurich Opera, appearing in roles such as Giorgio in “I Puritani”, Mustafa in “L'ltaliana In Algeri”, and Colline in “La Boheme.” No stranger to South Carolina audiences, Mr. Will has sung with the symphony orchestras of Greenville, Charleston, Columbia, Florence, and Hilton Head.  Mr. Will graduated from the University of South Carolina and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He is a member of the voice faculty at the University of South Carolina.

Bass-baritone Marc Rattray has enjoyed much success with the Newberry Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Chautauqua Symphony, South Carolina Philharmonic, Augusta Symphony, Opera at USC, and the Atlantic Coast Orchestra. A consummate singing actor, Rattray's opera roles include Dulcamara in Donizetti's “Elixir of Love” and the title role in Mozart's “Marriage of Figaro.” Mr. Rattray was a world finalist in the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition and has twice represented South Carolina as a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Having founded the Lexington County Youth Chorale, Mr. Rattray continues to invest in the cultural life of the Midlands. Recently, he appeared in a live SCETV broadcast of the Mozart “Requiem” that involved area high school choirs. Viewing music ministry as a full-time calling, Rattray is currently the Director of Worship and Arts at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

An accomplished and versatile musician, pianist Sharon Hudson Rattray, is in demand as a solo artist and accompanist. Mrs. Rattray received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in piano performance from the University of South Carolina. In 1991, she participated in a chamber music concert at Lincoln Center for the Mozart Bicentennial Celebration. Mrs. Rattray has performed as soloist with both the USC Orchestra and the South Carolina Philharmonic. She also finds herself at home behind the organ and has served as organist in many churches in the Columbia area. Along with her sister, Allison Hilbish, she performs sacred piano/organ duo concerts. Mrs. Rattray is organist at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, staff accompanist at the USC School of Music, and accompanist for the Lexington County Choral Society.
