Boys and Girls Club of the PeeDee Exploring the Arts

Peace, Love, and Hope

Congratulations to Jasmine C., a 17-year-old member of the Rick & Susan Goings Boys & Girls Club in Hemingway! Her pastel self-portrait, entitled “Peace, Love, and Hope,” was a winner at the Southeast Regional Fine Arts Exhibit, held this year at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia. Around 1500 Club members around the country participate in Fine Arts Exhibits, beginning at the local level, and moving up to five regional competitions. Jasmine is in some VERY good company: her submission was one of only 254 art works selected at the regional level to be judged nationally!Peace, Love & Hope

Governor's School IGNITES!
For the second summer in a row, students in the Pee Dee had a chance to IGNITE a love of the arts through a week-long camp.Experienced arts educators from the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, SC, provided this exciting summer program to rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders with a special interest in exploring music, dance, drama, visual arts or creative writing. No prior arts experience was required.
Drumming was only one of several art forms the IGNITE participants explored.
Last summer's IGNITE camp in Pamplico was so successful that it grew this year to include Pamplico, Florence, Lake City, and Hartsville. The camp is a partnership between theGovernor's School, theBoys & Girls Club, and theFlorence Museum, and sponsored by Duke Energy. Thanks to all of our partners for helping to IGNITE an interest in the arts among our members
