August 16: Bluegrass at the Art Trail Gallery featuring Carolina Crossroads

Bluegrass Comes to the Art Trail Gallery

The Art Trail Gallery invites you to enjoy an afternoon of All American bluegrass with a special performance by Florence County’s Carolina Crossroads, Saturday, August 16th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Band members Ernie McCormick, Jerel Barnes, and Charlie Calder will perform a mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass. Light refreshments will be served. This performance is free! A summer afternoon, friendly people, and great bluegrass, it just doesn’t get much more “South Carolina” than this! Mark your calendar to attend!

Carolina Crossroads bluegrass band was formed in 2005 as a music ministry. The band sings traditional bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music. The band, based in Florence, SC, has performed throughout the Pee Dee area in numerous events from fund raisers, family reunions, birthday parties, to church events and socials. Carolina Crossroads is the “House Band” for Cain's Bar-B-Q Restaurant, leading the music jam every Friday night for the last 2 years. They have released two cd’s, God’s Been Good to Me and All American Bluegrass. CD’s will be available for sale during the afternoon concert.

Members of Carolina Crossroads are heavily involved in the Southeastern Bluegrass Association of South Carolina. Organized in 1991, SEBGA is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to the preservation of traditional Bluegrass music. The SEBGA serves the PEE DEE region of South Carolina. Concerts are held the 1st Saturday of every month at Lynches River County Park, near Florence, SC. Jammers play into the late evening under the southern skies on the banks of the Lynches River. Two festivals—the spring and fall festivals are all day events. The spring festival is usually held in April and the fall festival in October. Events include an indoor concert featuring area bands. Outdoor is an informal gathering of local musicians of various skills who jam together, playing and singing traditional bluegrass songs. Bluegrass is rich in traditional folk and gospel songs. They encourage people of all skill levels to come out and join in the fun either as an audience member or as a musician.  If you play an instrument, bring it along. Hot sandwiches, snack foods and beverages are available for purchase. Membership information on the Southeastern Bluegrass Association of South Carolina will be available at the concert, as well.

The Art Trail Gallery is located at 185 West Evans St., Florence, SC. Parking is available in front of the building, on the side, and behind, as well as other parking lots close by. The Gallery is hosting Visualicious during August. Artistic works on display are available for viewing or immediate purchase.
