September 20: Florence County Library's Dewey D. Fox Children's Fall Festival


LIBRARY PRESENTS CHILDREN’S FALL FESTIVAL

 The Florence County Library System kicks off the Dewey D. Fox Children’s Fall Festival on Sept. 20, 2014 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library in Florence. This will be the eighth Fall Festival held by the library, with attendance at the previous festival exceeding 2,000 people.

Through colorful performances, activities and crafts, children will learn about the value of money, and how to save and spend it wisely.  Featured artists at the festival include:

Children’s author Nancy Carlson (author of Start Saving Henry!)  
Nancy Carlson
Lee Bryan – The Puppet Guy (Emmy Award Nominee)
Porkchop Productions Children’s Theater Group
Steel drum music by Chris Lee

Face painting, balloon sculpting, and crafts for kids will be available. Library mascot Dewey D. Fox, along with the library’s new financial education mascot Maxamillion the Money Monster, will be on hand to welcome kids of all ages. Children will have the opportunity to get an up-close view of community helpers as members of the police, EMS,  and fire department will be part of the festivities with a police car, ambulance and fire truck.  Food and beverages will be available for sale. Books by author Nancy Carlson will be for sale to the public at the event courtesy of Barnes and Noble. 

Partnering with the library to promote financial literacy are the the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs and The Benefit Bank of South Carolina (a service of SC Thrive). Representatives of both organizations will be on hand during the festival to provide information about the services they provide to improve the financial health and consumer awareness of area families. 

This financial literacy event and related programs and resources for all ages at the library are made possible by a grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation through Smart investing@your library®, a partnership with the American Library Association.
