The Florence Short Film Showcase is please to announce the film line-up for the Florence Short Film Showcase on Friday, February 3rd. The showcase will take place from 6pm to 11pm at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology on the campus of Florence-Darlington Technical Community College campus.
“We have chosen films that we feel will entertain no matter if you like a documentary, comedy, or drama. The audience, hopefully, will be very pleased with all the films, as there is something for everyone,” said Tonita Perry, the event organizer. “Come prepared to laugh, learn, think, but most of all enjoy. “

- “Paper or Plastic” – Directed by Martin Rosete
- “Shades of the Border” – Patrick Smith
- “Song of Pumpkin Brown” – Directed by Brad Jayne
- “Why do White People Have Black Spots” – Directed by Anya Kandel
Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at the door, as well as online at www.florenceshortfilmshowcase.com. General admission includes a pre-screening wine reception, starting at 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, followed by the film screenings with a 15-minute intermission, ending the night with a champagne reception to discuss the entertaining films. The evening will be hosted by Bhakti Larry Hough, operations manager at Radio Bahai WLGI-90.9 FM and noted jazz musician and leader of The Bhakti Project.
The first time Greater Florence County, SC event will honor Black History Month by screening Black-themed short films in a concentrated setting to bring awareness to the art of short films and creative content by and about Blacks from the African Diaspora. The Florence Short Film Showcase is a unique enrichment event, presenting the opportunity to promote the arts in the form of film, possibly inspiring county residents to become filmmakers.
The showcase will feature nine short films, acquired through an international appeal and the South Carolina Film Commission, that are directed by a Black person, tells a story of the Black experience, and/or features a Black person in a leading role. At the end of the screening, the audience will choose the best short film of the showcase.
