The session is free and open to the Public. Bring a friend and learn more about this incredible opportunity for artists of all types and levels of experience.

About the Competition
Artist from across the 12 Southeastern states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia) are encouraged to submit artwork for the competition and their chance at a share of $100,000 in prizes. These life-changing prizes will be awarded as a Top Prize ($50,000), a Juried Panel Prize ($25,000), and a People’s Choice two-dimensional ($12,500), and a People’s Choice three-dimensional ($12,500) prize during ArtFields 2015. Emerging and established artists at all levels of recognition and education may submit one original 2-D or 3-D work or art. Artwork is submitted online to be reviewed by a jury of visual arts professionals. The jury will select 400 works of art to compete in Lake City for the prize money. Artists will be notified no later than January 1, 2015 of acceptance into ArtFields 2015.

ArtFields to return to Lake City in 2014

ArtFields: Registration Information (January 7th - February 7th)

ArtFields will award $100,000 in prize money during its inaugural event April 19-28, 2013 in Lake City, South Carolina. Selected artists will be invited to exhibit their work in one of the historic downtown Lake City venues, from a museum to a barbershop for ten days. Art competition winners will be determined by popular choice and juried panel votes. Voters will have to be present in Lake City, SC to cast their votes during ArtFields.

Step One – Register (Opens Monday, January 7, 2013 at 9 AM EST)
1. Sign up for an account through artfields.slideroom.com (beginning January 7).
2. Create an artist profile by providing your contact information.
3. Upload a high-resolution image(s) of the artwork to be considered. File formats supported jpeg, png, gif, and bmp. (One artwork entry per artist).
4. Pay the non-refundable $25 application fee.

Venues cannot see your artwork submission until registration is complete. ArtFields submissions must be completed by Thursday, February 7, 2013 by 5 PM EST.

Step Two – Notification of Acceptance
1. All submissions will be reviewed by an independent panel of visual arts professionals and rated on a scale from 1 to 5 (1 = lowest score; 5 = highest score).
2. The top-rated 400 artists will be invited to exhibit during ArtFields 2013 in Lake City, South Carolina.
3. You will be contacted via e-mail no later than Sunday, February 17, 2013.

Step Three – Venue Selection
1. Venues will view selected artworks through a private gallery on ArtFieldsSC.org.
2. You will be invited by the venue no later than Sunday, February 17, 2013 via e-mail.
3. An Artist and Venue Hosting Agreement will be signed to confirm your participation.

The venues are responsible for consulting with the ArtFields Arts & Cultural Relations Director before inviting artists to exhibit in their space. This will ensure venues will display each artwork in the most fitting, safe environment with sufficient room for viewing.

Call to Artists from 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia

701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia, S.C., announces the 701 CCA Prize, an art competition and exhibition for professional South Carolina artists 40 years and younger. The center’s inaugural installment of the project will take place this year with a juried process resulting in a November – December exhibition for the competition’s three finalists and an award celebration announcing the winner. Eligible artists are invited to apply for the 701 CCA Prize by completing and submitting the application package by September7, 2012. “With the 701 CCA Prize, 701 Center for Contemporary Art hopes to add another crucial component to the eco-system and infra-structure for artists and the visual arts in South Carolina,” 701 CCA board chair Wim Roefs said. “Our state does not have a platform to highlight some of the extraordinary young talent in South Carolina. We hope that this competition and exhibition will fill part of that void, not unlike last year’s inaugural 701 CCA South Carolina Biennial, which has begun to fill a void with respect to a regular overview of contemporary art in our state.”

The project’s purpose is to identify and recognize artists 40 years and younger whose work is exemplary in its originality, shows awareness of artistic developments and is of high artistic merit. The 701 CCA Prize will be awarded to one young professionalSouth Carolinaartist for outstanding art production sinceJanuary 1, 2010. Aside from the age requirement, eligible artists must currently live inSouth Carolina. They must have or have had a solo exhibition in a museum, art center, commercial gallery or a designated gallery space in a cultural facility betweenSeptember 1, 2010–September 1, 2012. They also must fulfill several practical requirements outlined in the application guidelines. The application fee is $25.

An independent jury of three art professionals will select three finalists for the 701 CCA Prize. The three finalists will be included in the 701 CCA Prize exhibition from November 1 –December 16, 2012, at 701 CCA. The exhibition’s opening reception will be November 1. The 701 CCA Prize winner will be announced during the 701 CCA Prize Celebration onNovember 29, 2012.

The 701 CCA Prize winner will receive a six-week, paid residency at 701 CCA; consultation services from a professional advertising and marketing firm; a solo exhibition at 701 CCA; and an ad in a national publication.

The jurors for the 701 CCA Prize 2012 are Lilly Wei, a New York-based independent curator and critic; artist Paul Bright, the director of the Hanes Gallery atWakeForestUniversityinWinston-Salem,N.C.; and Karen Watson, the director of the Sumter County Gallery of Art inSumter,S.C.With varying experience and exposure at the state, regional, national and international levels, each juror will bring a different perspective to the selection process. 

“The 701 CCA Prize is loosely based on the Turner Prize for artists in theUnited Kingdom,” board chair Roefs said. “The Turner Prize is one of the most prestigious art awards in the world and generates a lot of exposure for and excitement about the finalists. While the 701 CCA Prize differs in several ways from the Turner Prize, we hope that within aSouth Carolinacontext, it will trigger similar interest and excitement.”
