The Florence Short Film Showcase is set for February 3rd

The Florence Short Film Showcase in honor of Black History Month, taking place on Friday, February 3, 6:00-11:00 PM, at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing & Technology (1951 Pisgah Road in Florence, SC), is an occasion to screen Black-themed short films in a concentrated setting to bring awareness to the art of short films and creative content by and about Blacks from the African Diaspora.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as “an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits.” With the Florence Short Film Showcase, it is a unique opportunity to promote the arts in the form of film, possibly inspiring community residents to become filmmakers. It only takes a digital camera or smart phone, and computer to become the next Tyler Perry or Steven Spielberg.

All invited films for screening at the Florence Short Film Showcase, acquired through the South Carolina Film Commission and an international appeal, are directed/produced by a Black person, tells a story of the Black experience, and/or features a Black person in a leading role.
