June 28th to July 3rd: Butler Heritage Week in Hartsville



Each year, the Butler Heritage Foundation hosts Butler Heritage Week to raise funds for the continuing restoration of the former Butler High School complex on South Sixth Street and to focus attention on Butler’s legacy and the foundation’s goals.
The week-long event will kick off with the “Taste of Butler” Thursday, June 28, at 6 p.m. in the Butler Gym. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children.
The T.B. Thomas Golf Tournament will be held at Hartsville Country Club with a Shot Gun Start at 8:30 a.m. June 29. It is three-person Captain’s Choice and is $55 per person. Contact Alvin T. Heatley at 332-4522 or Jackie Campbell at (843) 992-4142 to sign up.
Also planned for Friday is the Bible Study at the Butler Gym, starting at 6 p.m.
The annual parade will be held Saturday, June 30, starting at 10 a.m. Parade marshals will be the 1968 Championship Basketball Team. There is a $25 entry fee per unit. Saturday evening will be an Oldies Basketball Game. The game begins at noon. The champion team of 1968 will be recognized. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children. A tour of the Butler facility will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday.
A banquet will be held at 6 p.m. July 1 in the Butler Gym. The fee is $25. The Roll Call of Classes will be announced. Send contributions to your class representative or to the Butler Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 461, Hartsville, SC 29551. Be sure to indicate your class year so the class will receive credit for your contribution.
Monday, July 2, is the annual meeting at 4 p.m. in the Butler Heritage Foundation Conference Room. The annual dance will be held Monday in the Butler Gym from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Dance admission is $15.
The event concludes Tuesday, July 3, with a tailgate event in Butler Park. Gates open at noon. There is a $15 fee for tailgate sports. For more information, contact Jeanine Heatley.
