Hartsville's Rhodes takes Best in Show in York County


Congratulations to the Pee Dee's very own Adrian Rhodes (of Hartsville) for winning Best of Show at the Arts Council of York County's 24th Annual Juried Competition.  Congratulations, Adrian!


The Arts Council of York County in Rock Hill, SC, announced its “24th Annual Juried Competition” winners at a free, public reception at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main Street, Rock Hill, SC, on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at 6pm.

Each year, the “Annual Juried Competition” is open internationally to artists 18 and older. Only original work, created in the last two (2) years, and not previously shown at the Center for the Arts, Dalton Gallery is accepted. All forms of media are eligible, including video.

Juror, Rebecca Elliot is the assistant curator of Craft + Design at the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, NC. She oversees the Mint’s collections of jewelry and metalwork in addition to contributing to projects relating to all other craft and design media. Prior to joining the Mint’s staff, she worked in a curatorial capacity at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and at Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Arts festivals she has juried include Artisphere (Greenville, SC) and the Bayou City Arts Festival (Houston, TX).

Elliot selected 34 works out of 110 entries from 18 cities and 7 states to be displayed in the “24th Annual Juried Competition” exhibit in the Dalton Gallery at the Center for the Arts.

The winners of the “24th Annual Juried Competition” are:

Best of Show:        ”OBOL” by Adrian Rhodes
1st Place:        ”The Ineffable State of Being” by Seth Rouser
2nd Place:        ”Ghost Dancer” by Robert J. Dygert
3rd Place:        ”geologae brilliotara no 001-005″ by Katie Poterala
Honorable Mention:     ”Bound (Night)” by Rebecca Jacobs

The “Juried Competition” will be on display in the Dalton Gallery at the Center for the Arts through Sept. 15, 2013.  O’Darby’s Fine Wine & Spirits is the presenting sponsor of the “24th Annual Juried Competition”.
