January 14th: Have lunch with the Boy Scouts and then enjoy a double dose of Andy Offutt Irwin and Dylan Sneed

On Saturday, January 14th, Florence is the place to be.  You can have lunch with Boy Scout Troop 402 as they hold their annual Chicken Bog Fundraiser at Highland Park United Methodist Church.  The Scouts will begin serving at 11am.  And it's ok if you don't make lunch; they're serving until 5pm).  The cost is $6 per plate.


After lunch, there are four performances that you won't want to miss.  Beginning at 2pm, Andy Offutt Irwin will perform Kid Entrapment at the FMU Performing Arts Center in downtown Florence.  Irwin is a story-teller extraordinaire.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.  Just down the street (and around the corner), the Second Saturday Songwriters Circle will take place from 4-6pm at Railroad Junction.   Dylan Sneed, Rachel Riner and Sarah Harelson will be featured at the Songwriters Circle.  This is a free concert.


And if one performance by Irwin and Sneed weren't enough, both will be back in the evening for a second show.  Irwin will again be at the FMU Performing Arts Center.  This time, he'll be performing Book Every Saturday for a Funeral.  The show starts at 7:30pm.  Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students.


Sneed's second performance of the evening will come in the form of a house concert (presented by Country Fried Rock).  Sneed's house concert will take place from 6-9pm.  Tickets are $15.  You must RSVP to receive the concert location.

FMU Performing Arts Center to showcase storyteller Andy Offutt Irwin

Some people are said to have an “inner-kid.” Andy Offutt Irwin, who is said to have an “outer-kid,” will perform Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center at two different shows.

The first show, “Kid Entrapment,” in the center’s smaller, more intimate Black Box Theatre, will be at 2 p.m. The second show, “Book Every Saturday for a Funeral,” will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre as well.

With a manic Silly Putty voice, astonishing mouth noises, and hilarious stories, he is equal parts mischievous schoolboy and the Marx Brothers, peppered with a touch of the Southern balladeer.  A native of Covington, Ga., Andy is a storyteller, humorist, singer, songwriter, musician, whistler, walking menagerie of sound effects and dialects and so much more.

His show is the fifth of 10 shows in the “Black Box Events Series”  being performed during the PAC’s inaugural year.

In addition to the “Black Box Events Series,” there are four others during the PAC’s season that runs until May of 2012.  Those series include, Broadway plays, concerts, family oriented shows and a variety series as well as the acts in the smaller, more intimate Black Box Theatre. Barry Smith: Every Job I've Ever Had

Barry Smith: Every Job I’ve Ever Had began its life in 2006 as one of the shows created for The Barry Smith Comedy Project Experiment Thing, where he challenged himself to write (and perform) a new solo, autobiographical, hour-long multimedia comedy show every week for 4 weeks in a row. Yes, 4 weeks/4 shows. He did this all at a very cool venue called Steve’s Guitars in Carbondale, CO, which is also where “Every Job…” was workshopped.
