27th Annual Hartsville NAACP Freedom Fund Celebration
to Feature The Impressions
The Hartsville Branch of the NAACP will present its 27th Annual Freedom Fund Celebration on Saturday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Center Theater at 212 North Fifth Street in Hartsville.
This year’s featured entertainment will be the legendary Chicago R&B and Soul group, The Impressions. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, the Impressions are famous for their hits I’m So Proud, People Get Ready, Gypsy Woman, For Your Precious Love, and Keep on Pushing.
By 1962, Butler and the Brookses had departed, and after switching to ABC-Paramount Records, Mayfield, Gooden, and new Impression Fred Cash collectively became a top-selling soul act. Mayfield left the group for a solo career in 1970; Leroy Hutson, Ralph Johnson, Reggie Torian, Sammy Fender, and Nate Evans were among the replacements that joined Gooden and Cash.
Admission to the Freedom Fund Celebration is $15. For further information, call 843-332-7979.
