Dylan Sneed Launches New Kickstarter Campaign, “Texodus, Accelerated”

On Saturday, February 9, Austin, Texas, native and Hartsville resident Dylan Sneed launched a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter.com to help fund an international radio promotion for his latest album, Texodus. The campaign will last until Monday, March 11.
Sneed recorded his album in 2010 after a separate successful fundraising campaign, also through Kickstarter.com. He explains in his project video, “Though well received by fans and several critics, the album [Texodus] failed to make a splash on radio.” A well-respected folk music promoter is interested in promoting Texodus to 850 radio stations in the U.S., Canada, and Europe this May and June. The promotion will coincide with Sneed’s second European tour. According to Sneed, a promotion of this magnitude “could begin to change my life.”
Sneed’s funding goal for this project--dubbed “Texodus, Accelerated”--is $10,000, which will cover promotion fees, manufacturing fees, postage, and some travel expenses. Projects on Kickstarter.com receive funding only if they reach at least 100% of their funding goals. If they fall short, the project creator receives nothing, and the project backers are charged nothing.
Sneed is offering several incentives for pledges ranging from $5 to $5,000. Project backers could receive postcards from overseas, a sneak peek at Dylan’s next album, online guitar lessons, private concerts, even a personalized birthday song. One backer will get to assist Dylan in writing an original song that will appear on his next album.
Kevin Oliver of the Columbia Free Times compared Dylan to “a sober Townes Van Zandt.” Darryl Smyers of the Dallas Observer called Dylan’s music “the best side of true Americana: music of passion and skill that can move an audience with a whisper or a roar.” For more information about Dylan Sneed and his new campaign, visit dylansneed.com.
