Terrariums are not only fascinating indoor micro-climates, but exquisite decorations for any room. Join Rebecca Turk as she teaches you the best construction methods, materials and care. Rebecca’s become known as a “terrarium-aholic” since she currently has 20 in her own home. Her passion for this subject comes alive in this class, so you don’t want to miss it!

The traditional terrarium will be the main focus of the class, though we will discuss other types as well. All materials will be provided including peat, activated charcoal, soil, plants, moss and a beautiful glass container. Sources will be provided for everything so you can build more terrariums at home!

Cost: $100 per person (includes 7 hour workshop of one-on-one instructor time, materials and viewing of the exquisite botanical garden) 

Botanical illustration is a powerful tool for understanding and communicating nature ‘s design. Whether for scientific exploration, self-expression, or both, botanical illustration gives us an opportunity to document those moments in nature that inspire us. Drawing in Nature introduces participants to the observation skills and drawing techniques necessary to visualize the plants and animals that nourish our love for nature.

Designed for enthusiasts of any age and with little to no artistic training, this beginner ‘s course will demystify the process of drawing and provide a foundational visual art education that includes skill-building in pencil, pen, and colored pencil.  And, all in a fun and encouraging atmosphere!

This instructor for this artistic class is Preston Montague. Preston  is an artist, educator, and landscape designer who developed a passion for the natural world while growing up in the rural foothills of Virginia. Currently, he works in Raleigh, NC where he focuses on projects that strengthen relationships between people and nature.  Preston received his master’s degree in landscape architecture from North Carolina State University and holds bachelor’s degrees in horticulture and fine art.  His latest body of work, Old North Alphabet (sample photographed above), is a series of didactic botanical illustrations designed to promote natural science literacy using art and storytelling.   Preston’s work can be found at www.carolinanaturalist.com.

December 4: Whimsical Winter Arrangement Class

Whimsical Winter Arrangements class Thursday, December 4, 2014 9:30 am – 2:00 pm Costs: $30 per person Winter arrangements throughout your home speak to the season cheer on a cold winter day. Using greenery common in your own backyard, join Amanda McNulty, SCETV’s host for  Making it Grow, as she pours out her vast knowledge of creating dazzling whimsical arrangements. Amanda has all the information and tricks of the trade to help convert your heated home to a winter wonderland in no time. In this class you’ll learn different techniques, tricks and tips to making beautiful winter arrangements. Amanda will work one on one with each attendee to make sure you have an exquisite centerpiece to take home. You’ll also learn the correct way to cut from the garden, so bring gloves and pruners if possible. There's only a few spots left so hurry to register! Join us in the garden for a special evening in support of the Lake City Beautification Committee. Their mission seeks to showcase the architectural and cultural heritage of our community by emphasizing the natural beauty that characterizes Lake City.

Each year this event highlights a local organization and our delectable Southern fruit, muscadine grapes. Using muscadines harvested from the garden’s vineyard, Table 118 will create a memorable meal showcasing these scrumptious, historically significant fruits.

The evening will feature cocktails, tours of the garden, an inspired menu and a silent auction. Auction offerings will include hand-crafted woodcrafts, family photo sessions in the garden, private garden tour with dinner, unusual plants and more.

Join us on Friday, August 22nd from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM for good fellowship in support of a worthy cause. This incredible evening will take place at Moore Farms Botanical Garden. The tickets are $75.00, with options for whole-table reservations ($500 for 6 people). The attire for this event will be elegant casual. All proceeds from this event will directly benefit the Lake City Beautification Committee.

Escape the heat of summer and cool down while we heat things up in the kitchen by turning summer vegetables into a flavorful relish!  In this class you’ll learn the art of food preservation as you cut, chop and boil your way through the canning process.

Sallie Dent Porth, Founder & Canner-in-Chief of Sallie’s Greatest, will lead the class using her canning expertise and everyone will leave with a jar of beautifully crafted relish!  After the class is complete Sallie will also offer some of her delicious jams to sample and sell, so get your taste buds ready.

Join us on Thursday, July 24th from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.  Our class registration is limited to the first 18 people, so register quickly! May 9th: Florence Symphony to perform at Moore Farms Botanical Garden

The Florence Symphony will present an evening of favorites on Friday May 9, 2014 hosted by the Moore Farms Botanical Garden. Its Spring and the Gardens are in full bloom. This will be an evening to remember.

The program will feature the music of Bizet’s Carmen, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, Rogers and Hammerstein’s Sound of Music, Sousa’s  Stars and Stripes and more .

Seating is available on the lawn (bring your lawn chair or blanket), in a seated area or at tables for 8. A social hour will begin at6PM and the concert will begin at 7 PM. Rain date will be on Saturday May 10.

April 27th: 3rd Annual Daffodil Festival in Lake City

April 21st: Daffodil Festival at Moore Farms Botanical Garden in Lake City

The Second Annual Daffodil Festival will be held on April 21, 2013 at Moore Farms Botanical Garden in Lake City. Enjoy tours, refreshments, and entertainment from 3pm to 6pm. The event, sponsored by The Lake City Junior Sorosis Club, will take place during Artfields. Tickets are $25, and all proceeds will support local charities. A drawing will be held for an original painting by Cornelia Webster Joyner.
