For
the past 13 years, Patz Fowle has been teaching art classes at the Governor’s
School for Science and Math (GSSM) during its Art in the Interim. Throughout the years, GSSM students have
created artwork in the styles of artists from sculptor Alexander Calder to George
Seurat.
For
the 2012 Art in the Interim (held between January 3rd and January 18th,
GSSM students worked on the following projects:
SMART
Cars in Clay
GSSM’s
slogan is “GSSM: Where smart is fun.”
Using that motto, Patz created a project where the students creating

Groovy
You! Pop Art Self-Portraits
For
this project, students were asked to research Pop Artists and create an acrylic
on canvas self-portrait in the style of their favorite Pop Artist. Students also gave a presentation on their
painting that detailed why they chose their artist.

Community Art Reach
GSSM
students created clay dogs and cats to be exhibited at the Hartsville Memorial
Library and adopted by the library’s patrons.
The clay animals were created by using The Patz Process, a ceramic
handbuilding technique developed and popularized by Patz Fowle. Click here to read more about the exhibit at
